It is 1781 and Antonio Salieri (Abraham) is serving as court composer to Emperor Joseph II (Jeffrey Jones). When Mozart (Tom Hulce, an Oscar nominee) arrives at court, Salieri is horrified to realize that the divine musical talent he wished he possessed has been bestowed upon this obscene and mischievous prankster. Driven to fury by jealousy, Salieri orchestrates a plot to destroy Mozart, to which he is willing to use any means at his disposal. Perhaps even murder.
