Kansas City, 1933: ghostly Detective Murphy (Burt Reynolds) is on the trail of his partner's killer. Police Lieutenant Speer (Clint Eastwood) has little sympathy for the growing number of casualties in the local mob war. Though they can't stand each other, together they form a dream team. In an ideally paced scenario, this duo scour the town in fights and shootouts that parody Reynolds and Eastwood's gritty film roles. Director Richard Benjamin captures the 1930s in style, and the additional cast - Jane Alexander, Irene Cara, Rip Torn, Richard Roundtree, Tony La Bianco and Madeleine Kahn - add sparkle to their antics. Rough and breezy, In the Heat of the City is a hot ticket to great fun.
