Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) are now buddies, especially since Dusty has dropped his tough-guy persona, and Brad has stopped trying so hard to match him. They even decide to spend this Christmas all together as one big happy family, along with both their wives and all their biological and stepchildren.
However, their perfect plan hits a massive speed bump when their own fathers decide to join the holidays. While there's no issue with Brad's warm and loving dad (John Lithgow), things are bound to get complicated with Dusty’s father (Mel Gibson)—an ultimate, old-school tough guy who doesn't do physical affection and is capable of joking with little kids about dead prostitutes. Dusty has always wanted to live up to him and now fears that his newfound softness will completely disappoint his dad. Even worse, he worries that his father's presence will turn an idyllic Christmas into an all-out war. And that's exactly where everything is heading, because neither Brad nor his dad want to end up on the losing side of this ruthless battle...
