Mr Kopfrkingl (Rudolf Hrušínský) works in a crematorium, is happily married and has two children. He takes care of his family, performs his work conscientiously and socialises with his friends. With the advent of Nazism, he is strongly influenced by the ideology, because apparently he too has German blood in him. But when he discovers that his mother-in-law is of non-Aryan descent, and his "poor" family has no right to exist under the new order, he decides to act...
