- Description
Gluttony, covetousness, sloth, envy, wrath, pride and fornication. The seven deadly sins preached by church dignitaries in medieval sermons warning how they could lead religious people away from the faith. These sins have appeared as the subject of many literary, artistic and theatrical works. Now an excellent and gripping film has been made about a pair of unequal detectives who solve a mysterious series of murders motivated by the aforementioned religious sermons.
With its original use of the aforementioned deadly sins as the common denominator in a horrific series of murders and the creation of a fascinating atmosphere, American Seven is one of the most remarkable and successful films of recent times. In its undeniable quality, it is rightly compared to, and perhaps surpassed by, one of the pinnacles of its genre, the thriller Silence of the Lambs. This irresistibly chilling and compellingly sinister film has a magnetism that draws the viewer into a dangerous investigation that ends in a showdown with one of the most intelligent and sophisticated criminals on the screen.
