We find ourselves in the Dominican Republic, where Torrett's group is planning to quickly and furiously steal "a few liters" of gasoline from a moving convoy. The spectacular action sequence only foreshadows the pace Justin Lin will dictate for the rest of the film. After a sharp cut, we find ourselves in Los Angeles, where we encounter the second "prodigal son". Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker, who appeared in the first and second installments) has stayed true to the police badge.
He is in the process of trying to uncover a drug cartel whose members are smuggling drugs into the United States across the Mexican border by dangerous spree rides through underground tunnels. O'Conner, a master wheelman, gets official permission from his superiors to brush up on his driving skills and infiltrate the gang as one of the drivers. Dominic Toretto has the same goal, but a much more personal one that is not worth revealing.
