His career seems boundless until his powerful employers discover he is gay and living with AIDS. Unceremoniously fired under the false pretense of incompetence, Andrew refuses to suffer silently. He decides to sue his former firm for unlawful discrimination. Unable to find an attorney willing to represent him, he turns to Joe Miller (Denzel Washington), a personal injury lawyer who must first overcome his own deep-seated homophobia to fight beside Andrew in a historic legal showdown.
