The Mummy returns. Not again. But this time it has left the warm sand dunes and emerged in China with the Olympians. That should make it all the more terrifying. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is the follow-up to the successful The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. Stephen Sommers may have been replaced on the director's chair by Rob Cohen (xXx, The Fast and the Furious) and the luscious Rachel Weisz by the equally beautiful Maria Bello, but otherwise everything remains the same. Rascally adventurer Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) will once again protect the world from an evil that has stopped respecting the inscription on his own tombstone, which reads the classic "Rest in Peace".
It should be noted that the grave in which the title antihero resides is a match for the Egyptian pyramids in terms of grandeur. It is surrounded by 10,000 members of the famous terracotta army, clay statues depicting in minute detail the warriors of two thousand years ago. Playful Hollywood screenwriters have made this wonder of the world the central plot of the story. It is said to be about the cursed soldiers of a powerful Chinese ruler (Jet Li) who, along with their master, are cursed by a disgraced and deceived sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) who has been deprived of her lover by the Dragon Emperor, forever imprisoned in an earthen crust. Unfortunately, an archaeological expedition stumbles upon this unusual cemetery, covered in dust and time, and includes adventurer Rick O'Connell's son Alex (a debuting Luke Ford), who is as reckless as his father. Through carelessness, he sets off a chain of events that ends with the revived mummy of the Dragon Emperor, who has one goal - to take over the world. Desperate, Alex turns to the only two beings who can deal with the undead, his own parents. But in the inhospitable Far East, the three soon discover that the mummies here are in a completely different league to the Egyptian ones, as are the dangers they will have to face in this thrilling and entertaining cinematic ride.
