The film is set around 1930, during the Depression in London (the same period in which the original books are set) and was based on seven other books by P.L. Travers. In the film, the children known from the original film, Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jana (Emily Mortimer), are now adults. Michal lives in Cherry Street with his three children and their governess Ellen (Julie Walters). After Michal suffers a personal loss, the mysterious nanny Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) reappears in the Banks family. With the help of cheerful lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and her unique magical abilities, she helps the family find their lost joy and happiness again. Mary Poppins also introduces children to a host of colourful and quirky characters, including her eccentric cousin Topsy (Meryl Streep)...
