For a bunch of high school kids in a small American town, the key to a successful weekend is convincing any adult to buy them alcohol. Lonely Mrs. Sue Ann (Octavia Spencer) is a godsend in this regard. Not only does she buy the teens a case of alcohol without batting an eyelid, but she offers them the basement of her secluded house so they can drink it and have a little fun while they're at it.
"Mom" Sue Ann has just a few little conditions. At least one of the participants has to stay sober to get the others home safely. No swearing in her house and no one is allowed to go upstairs to the living quarters of the house, which are all pretty reasonable rules. And so the local kids gather at Mom's house more and more often, only for darker tones to slowly begin to creep into the partying serenity as the lady of the house's over-the-top hospitality gradually becomes a strange kind of obsession, and the certainty that the day will come when she'll want something in return.
Soon, everyone's perfect teenage dream turns into a nightmare, and the best place in town turns into the worst place on Earth. That's what she told you kids. You're not supposed to go upstairs...
