Do you remember the wreckage of an airplane wedged in the crown of a giant baobab tree that the lemur king Julian used as a throne room? That's exactly what becomes a key part of the ingenious escape plan devised by the resourceful penguins. Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippopotamus, Melman the giraffe and Phil and Mason the chimpanzees all make the journey home. They are accompanied by King Julian, his aide Maurice and Capart Mort, who want to see how things work in the civilized world. The take-off of the plane is smooth, but the rest of the flight is not. Alex, the king of the New York Zoo, meets his parents and discovers that his mannerisms will do him no good in the heart of the Black Continent. Marty the zebra finally gets to experience first-hand what it's like to be part of a large herd and gallop freely through the savannah with it. Gloria the hippopotamus will meet an incredible male hippo, and Melman the giraffe will try to shake off his hypochondria while suffering in silence, because Gloria is not the least bit indifferent to him.
