Description:

At the beginning of the 18th century, Great Britain is ruled by Queen Anne (Olivia Colman), the last of the Stuarts, who has made a rather inglorious mark on history. She is shy and overlooked, suffers from painful gout and is not very educated, which makes her the perfect victim of manipulators. Her only support in life is Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) and their relationship gradually grows into a kind of amorous symbiosis. The only person she underestimates is her cousin Abigail (Emma Stone), who has come to court begging for a job as a servant after her family goes bankrupt. Sarah accepted her out of pity. Little does she know, however, that the ambitious Abigail could threaten her role as the Queen's favourite. So while Abigail is rapidly rising up the social ladder thanks to the popularity of the monarch, Sarah is beginning to fall out of favour. And this cannot go unrewarded...
