Chernobyl, a five-part miniseries co-produced by HBO and Sky, reconstructs the story of the 1986 nuclear accident, one of the worst man-made disasters in history, and the sacrifices that were made to save Europe from an unimaginable catastrophe. On 26 April 1986, a massive explosion rocked the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, releasing dangerous radioactive substances not only in Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian territory of the then Soviet Union, but also in areas of Scandinavia and Western Europe. Jared Harris portrays Valery Legasov, a leading Soviet nuclear physicist who led the investigation into the tragic event. Stellan Skarsgård plays Soviet Deputy Prime Minister Boris Shcherbina, who was put in charge of a government commission by the Kremlin to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
